Facebook Can Now Recognize You in Photos Without Even Seeing Your Face

Facebook’s facial recognition technology and how efficiently is tags you automatically in pictures. Facebook is constantly improving its technology to recognize you and now it doesn’t need to see your face anymore.

Facebook’s artificial intelligence team has been working these days on a new experimental facial recognition algorithm that recognizes the people even when their faces aren’t clear (most part covered, looking away etc.). Instead, it looks for other characteristics to recognize the person. For example– it could now recognize you using your hairstyle, clothes, posture, body etc. Awesome but creepy- right?


Yann LeCun, head of artificial intelligence at Facebook challenged himself and his teammates to create a new algorithm that could adapt itself according to the situations when Facebook is unable to see someone’s face clearly. So, this artificial intelligence works just like humans as we can recognize our friends even when their face is covered.


“There are a lot of cues we use. People have characteristic aspects, even if you look at them from the back,” says LeCun. “For example, you can recognise Mark Zuckerberg very easily, because he always wears a gray T-shirt.”

But the privacy implications too won’t be far once this sci-fi tech is launched as the people who don’t want to look at camera would surely raise questions regarding privacy concerns.


The Facebook AI team took about 40,000 pictures from Flickr with some pictures in which people’s face weren’t fully visible and processed them with the help of a sophisticated neural network. The final algorithm designed was able to recognize the people with covered faces with an excellent 83% accuracy which is better than other facial recognition technologies that make use of clear and uncovered faces.

Facebook Free Video Call is Now Available in the Philippines

Wednesday June 17, Facebook Philippines announced the addition of video calling to their Messenger app.


Today, we’re introducing video calling in Messenger. Now you can have face-to-face conversations with your friends and the people you care about, via Messenger.

You can quickly start a video call from any conversation with just one tap. If you’re messaging with someone and realize that words just aren’t enough, you can simply choose the video icon in the top right corner of the screen and start a video call right from within an existing Messenger conversation.

 


You can start a video call by selecting the video icon in the top right corner within any existing conversation. Video calling is available for mobile phone-to-mobile phone calls, regardless of operating system.




This is the latest feature released for Messenger, following the ability to send money to friends, the launch of Messenger Platform and the introduction of Businesses on Messenger (coming soon).
Video calling in Messenger first launch for people on iOS and Android in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Laos, Lithuania, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, the UK, the US and Uruguay since April 2015. We’ll be rolling out to other regions and locales over the coming months.

Facebook Anti Malware and Spam

Malware is software that's designed to take unwanted actions on your behalf. This software can collect info from your account, send status updates or messages that look like they're from you, or cover your account with ads that crash your computer. If you think you have malware on your computer, we can help you try to clean it up.

Often when you have malware your account is used to like many Pages and follow a lot of people on Facebook. We recommend reviewing your recent account activity from your activity log. From here, you can delete anything you didn't mean to post and unfollow any people or Pages you didn't mean to follow. 


The behavior of this virus is it will automatically send message to your friends and once your friend will click the link, their account will also be infected by the virus and will send message to their friends. 





Using your desktop computer, follow these 4 steps:


  1. Change your Facebook password.
  2. Scan your computer. Sometimes one virus scan might not be able to fix the problem, so we've partnered with F-Secure, Trend Micro and Microsoft to help. Even if you already have anti-virus software on your computer, we recommend using our free scanners too:
  3. Upgrade your computer's browser. Current versions of browsers have built-in security protection. Facebook supports:
  4. Remove any suspicious browser add-ons.

Antivirus programs don't always look for browser add-ons (extensions, toolbars)--so you will want to check your browser add-ons for anything that seems suspicious and disable it and see if that resolves your issue:

BROWSER/DISABLE ADD-ON TECHNIQUE


IE 7: Open browser. Click "Tools", click "manage add-ons", click "Enable or Disable Add-ons", in the "Show" list click "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer", click the add-on you want to disable and under "Settings" click "Disable".

IE 8: Open browser. Click "Tools", click "manage add-ons", under "Show" click "All add-ons", click add-on you want to disable, then click "Disable".

IE 9: Open browser. On browser toolbar click the little gear icon, click 'Manage add-ons', in the 'Show:' box change to 'All add-ons', click suspicious add-on to highlight and select 'Disable' in the lower right of window.

GOOGLE CHROME: Open browser. Click customize(wrench) > Tools > extensions > disable add-on desired.

FIREFOX: Open browser. Click menu > Tools > Add-ons > disable add-on desired.

SAFARI 2.x: From Safari menu select 'Preferences', click the 'Security' tab, uncheck 'Enable Plug-ins', click OK, close and relaunch your Internet browser.

SAFARI 3.x: Click the Safari menu, select 'Preferences', select 'Security' tab, remove check from 'Enable Plug-ins'.

NOTE: The program files for the add-ons are not deleted by the above. They can be re-enabled. To permanently remove the program files on PCs: Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (on Windows 7 operating system this is 'Programs and Features' folder) > select program and click delete. You will need to restart your computer.
MACs: I am not familiar with how to remove programs from MACs.

It is a good idea to clear your browser history, temporary internet files and cookies also (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options) OR (You can get to Internet Options from the Tools menu on your browser).

Facebook Page Plugin

At F8 this year, Facebook announced the Page plugin — a new way to easily embed and promote any Facebook Page on your website. It allows people to like or share your Page directly from your website, helping to increase engagement and awareness. As a reminder, on June 23, websites that currently use the Like box will automatically update to the Page plugin — so your site will have the benefit of the plugin's new, updated look and functionality without any work required to make the change.


Page plugin features that you may find helpful include:

  • People visiting your website will see which of their friends like your Page.
  • People visiting your website will see the most recent posts from your Facebook Page. This is a great way to keep people up-to-date with the latest happenings from your Page.
  • The Page plugin language can be adjusted by loading a localized version of the Facebook JavaScript SDK.

Also, we're happy to share a few improvements to the Page plugin:

  • Improved Width Support: As requested by our developer community, we've made updates to the Page plugin to support a broader range of widths — as wide as 500px and as narrow as 180px. (Note that you may see minor layout changes due to space constraints when working with narrower widths. For example, at 180px you won't see the Share button).
  • More Flexible Sizing: We've added an additional parameter called adapt_container_width to ensure the Page plugin fits properly on websites. This lets developers control whether the Page plugin width will adjust to the size of its container, or if it will be a fixed width as specified by the width property.
  • Call to Action Buttons: The plugin now supports the same call-to-action buttons as Pages. For example, if your Page has a “Sign Up” or “Contact Us” button enabled, then that button now appears on the Page plugin on your website, with the same functionality that it has on your Page. This doesn't require any changes to the plugin configuration on your end.

    Securing Email Communications from Facebook with PGP Key

    It's very important to us that the people who use Facebook feel safe and can trust that their connection to Facebook is secure; for instance this is why we run connections to our site over HTTPS with HSTS and why we provide a Tor onion site for people who want to enjoy security guarantees beyond those offered by HTTPS.

    However these technologies protect only the direct connections people make to Facebook. People also receive information from us over channels such as email. Whilst Facebook seeks to secure connections to your email provider with TLS, the stored content of those messages may be accessible as plaintext (with attachments) to anyone who accesses your email provider or email account.

    To enhance the privacy of this email content, today we are gradually rolling out an experimental new feature that enables people to add OpenPGP public keys to their profile; these keys can be used to "end-to-end" encrypt notification emails sent from Facebook to your preferred email accounts. People may also choose to share OpenPGP keys from their profile, with or without enabling encrypted notifications.

    Where encrypted notifications are enabled, Facebook will sign outbound messages using our own key to provide greater assurance that the contents of inbound emails are genuine.

    Key Fingerprints & Roadmap

    Facebook's OpenPGP key comprises a long term primary key with short term subkeys; this allows us to frequently rotate our operational keys whilst maintaining the web of trust and a consistent identity over time. As of the time of writing our primary key has the fingerprint:

    Finally: public key management is not yet supported on mobile devices; we are investigating ways to enable this.

    How to use PGP to send encrypted emails?

    In case if you want to send and receive encrypted email using PGP, you will first need to install some extra software given below:

    • GPG4Win: GNU Privacy Guard for Windows known as GnuPG
    • Enigmail
    • Mozilla Thunderbird

    Using GPG4Win software, you can create your Public and Private PGP keys. Public Key is something that others will need to know before they can send you encrypted mail. However, Private PGP key will be used to decrypt emails you receive, which you need to keep secret from everyone.

    Creepily Stalk your friends from FB messages

    A student developer from Cambridge has created a Chrome extension that works similar and also named it Marauder’s Map.The extension that allows you to watch every footstep of your Facebook friends by grabbing location data from Facebook Messenger and rapidly plotting your friends’ locations on a map.

    If you remember the magical Marauder’s Map from the Harry Potter books that reveal the whereabouts of characters as they roam classrooms and the halls of Hogwarts school.

    Facebook usually encourages Messenger users to share their location by enabling location sharing by default when users install iOS or Android app.

    About the creepy potential of the location data we often inadvertently reveal about ourselves on Facebook Messenger, due to its defaults of always sharing your location when sending messages from the increasingly popular mobile app.

    We all are aware that Facebook shares our location data with our friends, however, what we probably aren’t aware of the accuracy of that data and easiness of extracting that data from the messaging service.

    Software developer Aran Khanna’s extension dubbed Marauder’s Map, loads the map in Messenger’s Web interface and fetches the data from messages sent over Facebook Messenger with location sharing enabled.

    The extension will able to map your location only for those instances when you have had a conversation with your friends over Messenger with location enabled.

    If you don’t want to share your location with your friends and keep your location data private, then you can disable location sharing feature by tapping the arrow icon in your Messenger, or simply go into the settings of your phone and disable Messenger’s location access altogether.

    How Do I Use The Map?

    To pull the most recent location data of a Facebook user onto the map you have to be on https://www.facebook.com/messages/ and click on any conversation (indavidual or group) in the list on the left with that user in it.


    Any message sent from that user with a location attached is added to the map.Bubbles on the map represent the most recent location for each user, and clicking on a user's bubble brings up all past location points recorded for that user.

     To close the map click the blue bar above the map and it will minimize to a tab in the bottom left which can be clicked to re-open the map.

    Free video call in FB Messenger now nearly Worldwide, but not yet available in PHL because of poor Internet

    Last April, Facebook introduced the new feature that allows face-to-face conversations. It is initially available on mobile devices running Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

    "You can quickly start a video call from any conversation with just one tap. If you’re messaging with someone and realize that words just aren’t enough, you can simply choose the video icon in the top right corner of the screen and start a video call right from within an existing Messenger conversation," Stan Chudnovsky, head of product for Messenger, and Param Reddy, engineering manager, said in a blog post.





    Messenger has yet to win over some Facebook users who do not like the idea of a standalone messaging app for the social networking site.

    But Facebook's Dave Marcus said only a few countries still do may not have the feature for now as the social networking giant works out some quality improvement issues.

    "(W)e're happy to share we've now rolled out the capability globally, with the exception of a few countries we're still working on improving quality for," Marcus said.

    He said the feature is now in the latest apps of Facebook for iOS and Android.

    Many commenters on Marcus' Facebook post had requested that the feature be included in the country.

    DigitalTrends.com said countries that have not yet received the video calling functionality include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the Philippines.

    A study by Internet metrics provider Ookla showed the Philippines has the second slowest average download speed among 22 Asian countries.

    How to customize Facebook Timeline Photos of You

    I'm bored today so I played with my timeline photos.
    I try to re arrange them like picture puzzle.

    Nine pieces picture  that create a whole picture.
    The secret here is to cut a whole picture in nine pcs then upload each on your timeline and tag yourself.




    HOW TO :

    1. Simply way to edit photos- is using PAINT, Select a photo you want to be a cover open it on Paint.
    2. On Paint  click View tab menu  check all box  Ruler, Gridlines, Statusbar,
    3. Adjust your photo Zoom 50%   pixel 600 x 600.


    3. Now start cutting  Click Home - Click Rectangular Selection.


    4. Select Lower Right Part  ,  Left click your mouse on 400x400 ( the Red line on ruler will guide you)  and drag it to 600x600  creating a perfect square (size 100x100)
    Cut your selected part.


    5. Open a Ms Paint again   DO NOT CLICK NEW or your current setting will erase Open the MS PAINT on Start Menu.

    Adjust your Background 200x200  with ZOOM  100%  Paste Here then save as Part01


    Continue to cut with this pattern....  save PART01 to PART09



    6. Upload  Each Part  From Part01 to Part09  on your Timeline ,1 Picture at a time DO NOT Upload all in 1 Album...

    7.Each Time you successfully Upload  a Picture, Click and View the Picture and TAG yourself..
    (YOU CAN NOT TAG WHILE UPLOADING SOME PART DON'T HAVE FACE - That is why  you should upload it first )


    EXPLANATION WHY WE CUT AND UPLOAD THE LOWER PART FIRST?

    You can change the position of Facebook posts very easily. You need to tag the posts with a date and time and perhaps even seconds. Those times that are earlier will be lower on the page and posts tagged with a later time will be higher.

    Facebook down for some PHL users May 12 ,5 am

    Social networking giant Facebook was inaccessible for several users, including those in the Philippines, since about 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 12.

    Users trying to access Facebook were greeted by error messages ranging from "this webage is not available" to "network error."

    Mobile apps displayed similar "network error" messages as of early Tuesday morning.

    In some computer shop owner  reported they experience this but available on mobile access.

    The DownRightNow website, which independently checks whether a given site is widely inaccessible, said that as of 6 a.m. Tuesday (PHL time), Facebook still appeared down and may be experiencing a "likely service disruption."

    How to Add a Call to Action Button Link at the End of the Facebook Video

    Facebook’s auto-play feature on native videos have caused video updates to soar to the top of the reach list.

    If you have no video marketing in your posting strategy you should consider looking into it. You don’t need to hire a professional videographer to create great videos. Often times fans actually enjoy a more rustic video that gives a behind the scenes look into your brand.

    As you can tell the video quality isn’t that great, but it was a fun video that showed some insight into the office and our fans really enjoyed it.
    One of the most valuable features of Facebook’s video marketing is the ability to add a call to action at the end of your video.



    How do I add a call to action at the end of my video?

    If you're posting a video as a Page, you can include a link at the end of the video along with a text button that suggests the viewer click to view the link. This is known as a call to action. To add a call to action to your Page's video:

    1.Click Photo/Video at the top of your Page's Timeline and upload a video
    2.Click Add a Call to Action below the video

    3.Click No Button and choose the text you'd like to appear at the end of your video


    Add the web destination where you'd like to send people who've viewed your video



    You can also create a headline and describe the link (if you have facebook meta tag or og:description on your website this is automatic )

    Please keep in mind that only videos posted by Pages can include a call to action.

    The old Facebook Comments plugin will stop working replace with new improve plugin

    The Comments Plugin lets people comment on content on your site using their Facebook account. If people wish to they can share this activity to their friends in News Feed as well. It also contains built-in moderation tools and special social relevance ranking.

    A new version of the Comments plugin was introduced with the release of Graph API v2.3.

    To enable the new version of the Comments plugin you either need to load the version 2.3 of the Facebook SDK for JavaScript or define the v2.3 in the data-version attribute of the Comments plugin tag:

    If you do not manually upgrade till June 23rd 2015 all your Comments plugin implementations will automatically upgrade to the new version.

    There are two ways to navigate to the Moderation tool:

    App-based Moderation View: Visit the URL developers.facebook.com/tools/comments. You will get a list of all your Facebook apps, which enables you to moderate all comments tied to the corresponding app. If you do not use a Facebook app for your Comments plugin, you will not be able to use this view.

    Page-based Moderation View: Click the Moderation Tool link right next to a Comments box (see screenshot below). The view will only list comments posted to this page (URL).

    If are using the App-based Moderation View you can use the dropdown to switch between apps.

    In the moderation table you can either approve or hide comments depending on their status. To change the status of multiple comments use the checkboxes in the left column.

    Facebook Connect Plugin Hijacks by The Great Cannon of China

    From past few days, Internet Users in China are dealing with a weird redirection of traffic nationwide while accessing any website that makes use of connect.facebook.net resource

    The two websites to which the traffic is being redirected:
    • wpkg.org — A website for open source automated software deployment, upgrade, and removal program for Windows.
    • ptraveler.com — A personal travel blog authored by a young couple of Poland.
    "This behavior is occurring locally and beyond the reach of our servers," a spokesperson from Facebook told The Verge. "We are investigating the situation."

    The Great Cannon:

    The current attack is also intercepting a line of JavaScript from the Facebook Connect plugin and injecting a new line of code to redirect Chinese users to unrelated sites as the content passes through China's national web filters.

    The Citizen Lab researchers have named this capability "The Great Cannon," a special cyber attack tool essentially capable of hijacking Internet traffic at the national level and then direct that traffic at targeted networks the attackers want to knock offline, sending back spyware or malware, or using the target to flood another website with traffic.





    It is believed that Github's attackers used the Great Cannon as a DDoS attack tool to redirect the Internet traffic of visitors to Chinese search engine giant 'Baidu' or any website that used Baidu’s extensive Advertisement network in order to cripple the popular code-sharing website.


    It is still unclear why these two sites would be a target for the Great Cannon and why Facebook is chosen to conduct the attack, which has been banned in China for years, and most immigrants in the country use a VPN to access Facebook.

    New Facebook Pop Out Page Plugin Widget v2.3

    In a post on its page for developers, the social networking giant suggested that they start using the new Page Plugin instead.

    It allows administrators to promote their Pages and embed a simple feed of content from a Page into other sites.

    "With the release of Graph API v2.3, the Like Box plugin is deprecated and will stop working on June 23rd 2015. Use the new Page Plugin instead.      The  New Page Plugin widget remains in a fixed position on the right-hand side of your site.  When you hover over the blue facebook image, the Page Plugin will then slide and reveal itself using jquery.
